How to Choose a Laser-Cut Privacy Screen

Laser-cut steel privacy screen on a patio at golden hour

A decorative privacy screen is one of the most versatile pieces you can add to a home — part function, part feature. Whether you are screening a patio, dividing an open-plan space or simply hiding the aircon unit, the right screen does the job while looking like it was always meant to be there. Here is how to choose well.

1. Start with the job it must do

Be clear on the purpose: full privacy from a neighbour, a soft visual divide, sun filtering, or wind shelter. Denser patterns block more sightline and light; more open patterns feel airy and throw dramatic shadows. Knowing the goal narrows the design instantly.

2. Indoor or outdoor — and the right finish

Our screens are laser-cut from steel and powder-coated to handle the South African climate. For covered patios and interiors, a standard finish is perfect; for full sun, poolside or coastal homes, ask about a weather-grade finish so it stays beautiful for years.

3. Size and coverage

Measure the opening or wall you want to cover, including height for sightline privacy. We offer single panels through to multi-panel screens like our Big Tree 4-Panel, and almost any design can be cut to custom dimensions — so you are never stuck with an awkward gap.

4. Choosing a pattern

This is the fun part. Botanical and tree designs feel organic and soften a space; geometric patterns read modern and architectural. Consider the shadows too — a screen in sunlight paints your deck or wall with its pattern through the day.

5. Installation

Screens can be wall-mounted, fixed between posts, or framed as freestanding dividers. Many are a straightforward DIY fit with the right fixings; for larger or structural installs, we can guide you or your contractor.
